Texas School STATION (KBTX) - In the midst of a busy holiday season, a wave of respiratory diseases keeps spreading across the country. The combination of RSV, Coronavirus, and seasonal influenza is referred to by health professionals as the "Tripledemic."

According to Robert Craftsman, Director of Wellbeing and Prosperity at the Texas A&M College Institute of Medicine, the epidemic of diseases is not only occurring at higher rates this year but also far earlier than the usual sporadic rise.

We had the onset of a high rate of transmission way early in the fall because so many of our young people weren't exposed to RSV during the first phase of the epidemic, according to Carpenter. "Right present, there is unquestionably a rise in the three viruses."

Carpenter claimed that the increase in diseases during the holidays, particularly in the winter, is not unusual. According to Carpenter, current research suggests that this may be the tripledemic's peak, thus it is essential to exercise caution for the benefit of others.

"If we have all three of those viruses, it truly can effect not only the patients who are suffering from those illnesses, but also the patients who are in the hospital battling other ailments," the doctor said. Particularly in remote places like the Brazos Valley, according to Carpenter.

The Brazos Area Health District recorded roughly 400 new cases of the flu in the county since November as of Wednesday, December 7.

Chief Medical Officer of Baylor Scott & White in College Station, Dr. William Rayburn, reported that his facility is receiving a sizable influx of patients.

“It’s a very interesting time for many hospitals across the country,” said Rayburn. “I think the surge in RSV and the flu right now is probably a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Rayburn’s advice to the community is to take preventative measures because hospital beds fill up quickly.

The majority of the time, these three infections will run their own course without the need for hospitalisation. Rayburn urged the populace to exercise common sense, learn the fundamentals of how infections travel, and attempt to avoid going to the emergency department unless it genuinely was an emergency.

Rayburn claims there is a potential the tripledemic might complete its course as the winter progresses.

In the middle of the tripledemic, health professionals advise individuals to acquire the appropriate flu and COVID-19 vaccinations.
